Tiger Pantry won the “Best Auxiliary” award at the SEC Student Government Association Exchange in July 2015, beating out auxiliary programs from 13 other schools that attended the student government conference.
“We wanted to do something special and have an anniversary event…while also supporting local artists and the MU community in need of food,” said Shannon Orbe, a senior and executive board member of Tiger Pantry.
Mizzou Women Give, the women’s philanthropy project at MU, voted to award nearly $16,000 to Tiger Pantry. The pantry will use the grant to help fund the purchase of a van to facilitate food collection and distribution efforts.
“Today’s students are tasked with earning perfect grades, being active with extracurriculars and holding down a job,” says Lauren McDermott, Director of the Tiger Pantry at the University of Missouri (Columbia, MO). “Tuition is rising. Cost of living is rising. Debt is growing. Everything is working against us.”
